So I played Tennis on VR this weekend at a Mall. It was shabby, not just because of the lack of accuracy of my body movements to the actual movements on the screen, but also because I ended up damaging my thumb and fingers by hitting the controller to a nearby barricade (not virtual, but real one), and the marketer in me got thinking on how this can be leveraged

So this is how it typically we interact with devices today

  • Laptops- Type, Click, Scroll, Facial expressions etc
  • Mobiles- Swipe, Tap,Flick, Press, Pinch, Spread, Drag, Scroll, Shake, Facial expressions etc
  • VR – Full body movements, Facial expressions etc

So how does a marketer(+product guy) benefit from this?

  • Different UI for a user who prefers to scroll with left thumb viz-a-viz left thumb
  • Measure Touch heat-maps to see the areas where the key action (CTA) has to be shown
  • UI Action distribution between left and right, up and down, swipe and flick – based on user behaviour
  • Gesture analysis to understand gestures that lead to Exits, Desired Actions (like add to cart), Switch Apps etc and thus Plan Ad / Action Placements accordingly
  • and so on
